Margaux is a former commune in the South-West of France, now a delegated commune of the new commune of Margaux-Cantenac. Located in the Gironde department, in the Nouvelle-Aquitaine region, this town is one of the famous Médoc vineyards which are internationally renowned.

During your visit to Margaux, visit one of the many castles present on site. For your choice to be the best, we advise you to browse the list of domains accessible to the public on Winalist. Afterwards, take a stroll on Île Margaux, which is only a few kilometers from the city, in the "Bras de Macau". This island is mainly oriented towards viticulture. Then go to the Port of Issan which is not far from there.

Margaux wine: one of the most famous in the world!

More than a city in the South-West of France, Margaux is also known for its wine “le margaux”. This French red wine with a controlled designation of origin (AOC) is produced around the commune of Margaux in the Médoc, one of the subdivisions of the Bordeaux vineyard.

The AOC Margaux is also the only communal appellation of Haut-Médoc to bear the name of a Premier Grand Cru Classé, Château Margaux. This appellation extends to the south of the Médoc over approximately 1,400 hectares and produces an average of 63,000 hectoliters of red wines per year.

To find out more about the city of Margaux and the AOC Margaux appellation, we invite you to book your next wine tourism experience now with one of the Margaux winegrowers. The reservation is made online and is instantaneous. Very good stay in Gironde!
