visit the Ruinart cellars, the famous Champagne House
After a few explanations on the history of Maison Ruinart given in one of the salons of the historic building dating from the end of the 18th century, head for the stairs that lead to the chalk pits. Let yourself be guided to a depth of 40 meters and discover the bewitching universe of several centuries of history. These old chalk quarries, exploited for nearly 2000 years to build all kinds of buildings such as the Cathedral of Reims , now house the bottles of the prestigious House during their maturation. In the cellars of Champagne , it is constantly 10°C with a humidity rate of around 100%, so remember to take a jacket! During this visit, you will discover the key stages in the production of champagne. During your tour, you will be able to see bottles in the middle, that is to say, lying on wooden slats in order to have the second fermentation, or even bottles placed in desks for the riddling operation. The visit to Maison Ruinart ends with the tasting of a non-vintage champagne (Ruinart Blanc de Blancs or Rosé) and a vintage prestige champagne (Dom Ruinart Blanc de Blancs or Rosé). Thanks to the explanations, you will be able to perceive all the particularities and qualities specific to each champagne.
