Fabien Jouves comes from a farming family that has cultivated the wild lands of the Causses du Quercy for five generations. In 2006, fresh out of university with a degree in oenology, he became a winemaker, creating Mas del Périé on the vineyards where he grew up, in Trespoux-Rassiels, on the edge of the Cahors appellation, where Malbec has flourished since the 16th century under its local name, Auxerrois.
Our vineyard covers 23 hectares, planted mainly with Malbec and Chenin Blanc, on a wide variety of soils: Miocene brown marl, siderolithic limestone, and especially Kimmeridgian limestone.
The unique character of Mas del Périé stems from its location at the junction of the Quercy hills and the limestone plateaus of Cahors, characterized by shallow, poor soils particularly well-suited to vine cultivation. The estate has naturally gravitated towards plot-by-plot selection to reveal all the nuances of Malbec in these soils.
