About the host
In 1920, their marriage marked the beginning of the legend of the Besserat de Bellefon House. The new brand was born.
In 1930, the Director of the Samaritaine de Luxe in Paris challenged Victor Besserat, Edmond's brother and the second of his name, to create a lightly effervescent Champagne with a delicate mousse and great finesse to ideally accompany an entire meal. To meet this request and win the bet, Victor decided to use the crémant production technique. The Crémant des Moines, the jewel of the Besserat de Bellefon House, was born.
The incredible lightness of its mousse comes from a unique process in Champagne. The House uses less liqueur de tirage, which results in a lighter, airier mousse, giving Besserat de Bellefon bubbles that are 30% finer than those of a traditional Champagne. When poured into a flute, it creates the wonderful impression of "creaming."
Many years later, as the "Crémant" designation was no longer used in Champagne, the wine took on the name that remains engraved in everyone's memory: "the

Where is the experience located?
5 Rue Jean Chandon Moët, 51200 Épernay, France
The tasting itself was well done and we enjoyed all three glasses.
First time visiting a champagne house and this was a fantastic starting point. The vintage angle made it feel curated rather than generic. Our host was knowledgeable without being condescending, and actually helped us understand what to look for when buying vintage champagne at home. Already placed an online order.
The guide walked us through three vintage cuvées with real precision — discussing the harvest conditions behind each year, not just the flavour profile. The 2015 alone was worth the trip. Compact format, no filler, and the pacing was spot-on for 45 minutes.
As someone who works in wine, I appreciated that this wasn't dumbed down. The host explained disgorgement dates, dosage levels, and how vintage character evolves with age. Rare to find that level of detail at this price point. Excellent Blanc de Blancs-dominant style — elegant and precise.
A well-paced and unpretentious experience. I would have appreciated a bit more background on the house's history, but the champagnes themselves were remarkable—especially the vintage that opened the tasting. The price-quality ratio at €65 is quite fair for Épernay.
