The tour begins with a brief introduction to the history of the Felluga family, a family committed to viticulture for generations, and an overview of the Colli Orientali del Friuli region, home to Castello di Buttrio. The evolution of the estate, now completely renovated, and the sustainable approach that guides every stage of production will be illustrated.

The tour continues inside the cellar, where guests can tour the areas dedicated to winemaking, aging, and storage. Here, they can discover firsthand the techniques used, the varietals grown, and the production philosophy, which aims to enhance the connection between grape variety and terroir.

During the tour, in a relaxed and authentic atmosphere, three selected wines will be tasted: two whites and a red from the current vintage. Each tasting will be accompanied by an explanation, guiding guests through the distinctive characteristics of each wine.

About the host

Castello di Buttrio was founded in the 1990s, when Marco Felluga purchased these lands. Today it is led by his daughter Alessandra, the fifth generation of winemakers, who has undertaken a careful work of recovery and enhancement of the territory, respecting history and nature. The goal is to produce wines that reflect the identity of the Colli Orientali del Friuli. Alongside ancient vineyards, some dating back to 1933, new rows have been planted to grow native varieties such as Friulano, Ribolla Gialla, Refosco dal peduncolo rosso and Pignolo, together with Sauvignon, Chardonnay, Pinot Grigio and Merlot, distributed over 26 hectares of vineyards around the castle, now completely renovated.

The basis of the company philosophy are the meticulous care of the vineyards, respect for nature and the enhancement of the terroir. The Ponca soil (marl and sandstone flysch) gives minerality, freshness and identity to the wines, including the Monblanc blend and the Uve Carate Bianco and Rosso reserves, and Ettaro Sauvignon. The Buttrio hills, famous for their whites, also allow a notable expression of the elegant and persistent reds.

Castello di Buttrio is also hospitality: welcoming rooms and typical cuisine in the Locanda offer guests an authentic experience of Friuli Venezia Giulia.
