About the host

Monterinaldi is located in an area inhabited since prehistoric times and permanently since the Etruscan era. The name of the company derives from the ancient castle, built around the year 1000. The construction of the castle dates back to a certain Gottifredo or Gottizio, a nobleman of Lombard lineage and Lord of Monterinaldi. The counts of Monterinaldi later dominated the entire area that today forms the municipality of Radda in Chianti.
In medieval times, during the wars between the Guelphs and Ghibellines, the fortifications were demolished. In 1686 the castle was purchased by the Geppi, a family of the Florentine aristocracy. Due to further destruction during the Second World War only a small part of the castle remained intact. Some houses in the village are now part of the wine estate. Villa La Pesanella itself was built at the end of the last century in pure eighteenth-century style, while the cellar dates back to the 1970s.
There is evidence of wine production as early as 1910, but the cultivation of vines with modern methods and on a larger scale only began in 1960.
Agricola Monterinaldi is considered one of the main companies in Chianti Classico, both for its overall production and for the quality of its wines.
The current total extension is 390 ha, made up of vineyards, olive groves, walnut groves, woods and pastures.
Total extension: ~65 ha; almost all of the vineyards are dedicated to the production of Chianti Classico DOCG.
