About the host

Castello di Perno dominates the homonymous village, a hamlet of Monforte d'Alba since 1932. The Castello was built during the medieval period by one of the most important Barolo families, the Falletti family, as defensive castle, located on one of the highest hills of this land, giving it a wonderful and strategical view of the Langhe landscape. Between the17th and 18th century, the Castello was significantly transformed into a residential building.
In the late 70s the Castello was bought by one of the most important Italian publishers: Giulio Einaudi, founder of the Italian publishing home Einaudi. The Castello became the headquarters of this publishing house and a working residence for many influent and famous Italian writers, who made the history of the Italian literature in that period. Primo Levi is one of the most known writers whom the small sqaure under the castle walls was recently dedicated to.
Since 2012, the Castello has been owned by Gregorio Gitti, lawyer and professor of Civil Law at the University of Milan. The Gitti family’s project from the beginning had two main purposes:
The first one has been to renovate the Castello di Perno and take back to light its original beauty and history making it a home for a Cultural Association of Contemporary Art. The first floor is an exceptional exhibition space for artists and a unique setting for living a full experience surrounded by different types of art.
The second aim of the family has been to establish a new winery
