Château de Sales

Host verified - Winalist
Bordeaux Winery Libourne
Château de Sales is one of the few Bordeaux estates to have been passed on intact from one generation to the next ever since the 16th century. The Château itself, built in the middle of the 17th century, was given historical monument status in 1996.

With over 47.6 hectares of the 90-hectare estate under vines, Château de Sales has the largest vineyard in the Pomerol appellation. At once suave and refined, the wines of Chateau de Sales are the expression of their terroir. As a result, they are marked by elegance, silky tannins and pleasant fruity aromas. They reflect the perfect match between the grape varieties used, predominantly Merlot with some Cabernet Franc and Cabernet Sauvignon, and the estate’s gravelly, sandy soil.

Come and discover an exceptional heritage and a unique family history.

Great time! Very interesting, a welcome and an exciting presentation of the castle. The person who accompanied us was available, a teacher and we learned and discovered a lot of things. In short, a great experience to repeat!

A visit rich in information around the property and family history, but also around wine culture. The final touch: a tasting of the two wines in a charming room! We recommend.

Magnificent family estate, visit of the garden and stories of the castle. Very interesting explanations on the wine of the domain and the region. 2 wines to taste, very good

A very nice experience. The guide enthusiastically explained to us the family that has run the business for 400 years, the history of the garden and the wine production process. We saw the facilities and did the tasting of 2 delicious wines.

Superb place, with its family heritage. Our host shared his passion for wine, and told us about the history of this family chateau during a stroll through the estate. Thank you

From vine to wine (As a couple)

We loved the visit to Château de Sales and learned a lot about the wine culture of the estate and the making of wine right up to its bottling. The idea of a very small committee visit allows us to ask all our questions!

About the people

Since 2017, with the aim of qualitative excellence, production methods have been evolving, under the leadership of the Managing Director, Vincent Montigaud (previously at Baron Philippe de Rothschild for 23 years, including 16 years at the head of Domaine de Baronarques), and the Technical Director, Frédéric Laborde. They are supported in their choices by Jean-Claude Berrouet, Oenologist Advisor, and Gilles Rey, Wine Advisor.
