About the winery

The historical roots of Quinta do Sampayo date back to 1718, and wine has been produced ever since.

In June 1860, D. Pedro V granted the title of 1st Viscount of Cartaxo to Luíz Teixeira de Sampayo, maintaining the winemaking activity at Quinta do Sampayo. Under the insignia of the Viscounts of Cartaxo, small quantities of wine were produced at Quinta do Sampayo, but of very high quality.

Almeida Garrett even mentions Quinta do Sampayo and the house of Luíz Sampayo (L.S.) during his visit to the Quinta in July 1843, describing what he felt in his work “Viagens na Minha Terra”: “We laughed and made merry until late at night: the rest we slept soundly.”

Quinta do Sampayo covers approximately 90 hectares, of which 55 are dedicated to vineyards and 11 to olive groves. Within this vast area, a variety of grape varieties stand out, individually and meticulously chosen, perfectly adapted to the soil and climate conditions.

Meet the team

I decided to take up my father's project again, his enthusiasm and the sparkle in his eyes that he showed every time he took me there every Saturday to see the progress of the work, the construction of the winery, our house, the many barrels and the planting of the vines. The growth of Quinta do Sampayo also involves supporting the community and respecting traditions, which is why it is essential for me to work with the local people, supporting them in initiatives that improve their lives.
