Museu Do Douro

The Douro Museum preserves, studies, exhibits and interprets material and immaterial objects representing the identity, culture, history and development of the region, regardless of the historical period, of various types and manufactures, with a special focus on elements associated with winemaking, central activity in the Douro.

The Douro Museum assumes its role in the formation of cultural values, in active coordination with other agents and institutions, promoting not only an educational function of dissemination and contextualization of the culture and history of the region but, above all, providing experiences capable of motivate active community participation and involvement.

As determined by the law of its creation, the headquarters building of the Douro Museum is located in the city of Peso da Régua, the result of the rehabilitation work on the emblematic building of the former “Companhia Geral da Agricultura das Vinhas do Alto Douro”, inaugurated on the 20th. December 2008.
