The Fonroque estate extends its 17.60 hectares of vineyard a few hundred meters northwest of the town of Saint-Emilion. It is spread over a limestone plateau and a west-facing hillside. Château Fonroque was the very first Grand Cru Classé certified in biodynamics.
Château Fonroque was acquired in 1931 by Adèle and Jean Moueix. Alain Moueix, their great-grandson, inherited it from his father and then managed the property since 2001.
He developed environmentally friendly viticulture there, leading to certification in 2006 in organic farming then in biodynamics in 2008.
In 2017, the Guillard Family purchased the property. Aware of the interest in continuing this essential work, the new owners asked Alain Moueix to maintain an active advisory role in the management of the property.
Fonroque presents a beautiful mosaic of the three main types of soils of Saint-Emilion To allow this terroir to reveal itself during blending, we are in the process of building a new cellar. It is made up of smaller tanks which allows for great subtlety to the final painting.
