Quinta do Infantado

The history of Quinta do Infantado is long since it was created in 1816, more than 2 centuries ago. Founded for Infante D. Pedro (hence its name), future King Pedro I of Brazil and later Pedro IV of Portugal, it has been owned by the Roseira family since 1904. It is located 4 km from Pinhão, in the unique terroir of Gontelho , a micro-region that has long been famous for the quality of its wines.

Based on the concepts of terroir and vigneron, Quinta do Infantado innovated in 1979 when it launched the first Estate Bottled Ports, thus breaking the monopoly of Vila Nova de Gaia’s negotiators.

The vineyards are the result of the mass selection of more than 20 Douro grape varieties, white and red, planted at all exposures and altitudes ranging between 150m and 350m. The fermentation in lagar allows a complete extraction, but with a lot of finesse, respecting the grapes as much as possible. The Ports are less sweet (half-dry), due to a longer fermentation, more vinous and lighter, allowing for a series of new pairings at the table.

Quinta do Infantado also makes Douro wines, each an expression of the vineyards that originate it, with the Douro’s sun and schist involved in a lot of freshness.
