In our cellar, the visitor space coexists with the workspace. You will find a working producer's cellar, where you will be welcomed in a family atmosphere by those who work at Nicolau de Almeida, free of tourist trappings. We open the doors of our house in Gaia and talk about the vineyard, the wine, and life! The visit begins with an introduction to our history. We explain how we work our vineyards at Quinta do Monte Xisto, how we vinify and age our wines, and how they reach their final destination, the bottle, which we label one by one. Finally, we end with a tasting of 5 wines: 2 red DOC Douro wines, 2 DOC Porto wines, and 1 white wine from Minho.

About the host
João Nicolau de Almeida, along with his sons, continues the family tradition, which is now in its fifth generation of wine producers. They are winegrowers and produce Douro and Port wines from their Quinta do Monte Xisto estate, located in the Upper Douro, Vila Nova de Foz Côa. They have practiced organic farming since planting. Their work is characterized by a continuous process of study and learning, seeking to achieve a natural dynamic of needs.
After vinification, the wines are sent to the Gaia cellars, where they are aged, bottled, and subsequently shipped. Vila Nova de Gaia is the natural and ideal location to complete the winemaking process.
