An hour to immerse yourself in the heart of the Tuscan Maremma, discovering the wines of Rocca di Frassinello. The guided tour starts from the majestic terracotta terrace, with a 360° view of the Maremma hills, continues in the suggestive Barricaia dug into the rock, where up to 2 thousand barriques rest in the darkness; it continues in the vat room and then in the adjacent rooms, where the Etruscan Documentation Center is located which displays the finds found in the Necropolis of San Germano discovered within the estate.

The experience includes a guided tour and tasting of 5 Maremma Toscana DOC wines in the modern Pavillon, accompanied by a selection of typical Tuscan cured meats and cheeses.

About the host

Rocca di Frassinello is located on the right hill going north which forms on both sides of the old Aurelia and which, thanks to the first great Roman road, forms a sort of canyon into which the sea wind coming from the plain between Castiglion della Pescaia and Grosseto, a constant breeze that removes any humidity and mitigates the climate even more in both winter and summer. From the top of that hill you can see the sea beyond Marina di Grosseto up to the Uccellina Park. Rocca di Frassinello was born from an Italian-French joint venture whereby, in the almost 90 hectares of vineyards, there are both Italian vines - Sangioveto and Vermentino - and French vines - Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon and Shiraz. Rocca di Frassinello wines are all blends with the exception of Baffonero - challenger of Masseto in the spirit of the America's Cup, the most famous Italian wine of our friends Marchesi Frescobaldi, owners of Ornellaia - which is 100% merlot. Exactly the opposite of the philosophy of Castellare di Castellina where the native vines are not blended with the international ones. The first official harvest was 2004 with around 130,000 bottles produced.
