Visit to the Winery

This property, in Redondo, has always been dedicated to wine production and the preservation of the rural landscape. The 300 hectares of Herdade do Freixo include vineyards and an underground cellar. It has national and international varieties, planted at 450 meters of altitude. Designed by architect Frederico Valsassina, the winery is modern and innovative, underground, dug up to forty meters deep and camouflaged in the landscape, serving the purposes of the vineyard without interfering with the balance of the natural ecosystem. The minimalist decor, in earthy tones and wood, makes the environment very comfortable. Also noteworthy is the Herdade's archaeological heritage, associated with the presence of megalithic monuments and remains from the Roman era. Built in depth, a total of three floors below the vineyard, it is in the cellar that most wine tourism activities take place. Visitors are welcomed at the door and, as they go down the various floors, the wine production process is explained to them, which can be observed through large windows that overlook the spaces where the work takes place. The visit ends in the barrel and bottle aging area. Then, the inevitable wine tasting, with or without snacks (cheese and sausages), as desired.
